Tesla Powerwall 3 Installation in Connecticut and Massachusetts

Tesla Powerwall 3 installation in Connecticut and Massachusetts: which SunPol Solar options include it, how backup works, and CT/MA battery incentives.

By SunPol Solar Insured · CT HIC Reg. #0698394

SunPol Solar installs Tesla Powerwall 3 home batteries in Connecticut and Massachusetts. Powerwall 3 is available with SunPol's Prepaid Solar Program, a solar PPA or a cash purchase, and SunPol's Powerwall package uses Silfab SIL-440 panels. With Propel, the battery is an Enphase IQ Battery 10C. Below: backup basics, installation steps and CT/MA battery incentives.

Which solar companies install Tesla Powerwall 3 in Connecticut?

Tesla sells Powerwall directly and through Tesla Certified Installers, and local solar companies install it too. SunPol Solar, based in Newington, CT, installs Powerwall 3 for Connecticut homeowners with its Prepaid Solar Program, a solar PPA or a cash purchase. Before you sign, compare installers on licensing, who does the work and who services the battery.

  • Ask for the installer's Connecticut home improvement contractor (HIC) registration; SunPol's is CT HIC-0698394, and its Massachusetts registration is MA HIC #220128.
  • Ask whether the company's own employees or a subcontractor will install the battery, and who you call for service later.
  • Ask whether the installer is an eligible contractor for Connecticut's Energy Storage Solutions program; as of November 2026, Sunpol LLC appears in the program's list of eligible contractors.
  • Check current Powerwall 3 specifications on Tesla's official Powerwall page rather than relying on numbers in ads.

Which SunPol options include Tesla Powerwall 3?

At SunPol Solar, Tesla Powerwall 3 comes with three options: the Prepaid Solar Program (a 25-year prepaid solar lease), a solar PPA through a financing partner, or a cash purchase. Propel financing uses an Enphase IQ Battery 10C instead, and a cash purchase can also use a FranklinWH aPower 2. Availability depends on your town and utility.

Solar PPA through a financing partnerTesla Powerwall 3The PPA provider

Propel (SolSource energy services agreement plus loan)Enphase IQ Battery 10CSolSource at installation; the funded buyout is normally applied after Contract Year 5 unless you opt out, subject to the agreement

With the Prepaid Solar Lease, you get one price, paid upfront, and the program price is 30% less than buying the same system.

To qualify for this SunPol offer, your system must be in service by December 31, 2027, meaning your electric utility has issued permission to operate (PTO). In Massachusetts, the payment schedule and agreement terms are set out in your written agreement.

With a PPA, there is no upfront system cost: you pay for the power it produces, from 16¢/kWh for qualified customers, with an escalator of 0%–2.99%, and utility charges may remain.

Propel is a SolSource program, not a SunPol product. It offers a potential 25–35% program-price discount versus buying the same system; your exact percentage depends on your project and is confirmed in your written proposal. Your loan payments continue after any ownership transfer, and availability requires project qualification and lender approval.

In the 12 Connecticut towns served by a municipal electric utility, SunPol offers only cash purchase or a loan.

How does Powerwall 3 backup work during an outage?

Powerwall stores energy from your solar panels or from the grid. When an outage is detected, Tesla's Backup Switch disconnects your home from the grid and automatically shifts your home's energy use to backup power from Powerwall. With a battery backup system, your solar panels can be wired to charge the battery until the outage ends.

  • Tesla says Backup Switch can be installed in whole-home backup systems or in partial-home systems.
  • What Powerwall runs in an outage depends on your design: it can keep the essential circuits selected in your design running, such as your fridge, Wi-Fi and some lights, and whole-home backup depends on the design and the number of batteries.
  • How long backup lasts depends on the size and number of batteries and the items you power with them.
  • Once Powerwall is turned on, you can monitor it and your home energy use in the Tesla app.

Solar panels alone do not power your home in an outage unless the home is specifically wired to do so.

Your installer looks at what you want to power during an outage, then sizes the system and the number of batteries around it.

What happens during a Powerwall 3 installation?

A Powerwall 3 project follows the same path as other home battery work: a site assessment of your electrical system, a design based on your usage, local permits, installation, a building department inspection, and activation. Grid-connected solar also needs permission to operate (PTO) from your utility. Timelines depend on your town, your utility and your equipment.

  1. Site assessment: the installer assesses your home's electrical system and any electrical upgrades needed.
  2. Design: the number of batteries is based on your home usage, with whole-home or partial-home backup.
  3. Permits: local permitting and inspection are standard parts of installation cost.
  4. Inspection: after installation, an inspection with your local building department certifies that the battery is safely and properly installed.
  5. Activation: a system that includes Powerwall 3 is activated after installation.
  6. Utility approval: a solar system is in service once your electric utility has issued permission to operate (PTO).

What battery incentives can CT and MA homeowners use with Powerwall 3?

In Connecticut, Eversource and UI customers can use Energy Storage Solutions, which lowers battery costs with enrollment and performance incentives. In Massachusetts, Cape Light Compact, Eversource and National Grid customers can enroll a battery in Mass Save ConnectedSolutions and earn incentives for its average contribution during summer peak events. Check each program before you sign.

ProgramStateWho can use itIncentive as of November 2026
Energy Storage SolutionsCTEversource and UI customers$30 per kWh enrollment incentive ($130 for Grid-Edge customers) plus 10 years of performance payments
ConnectedSolutionsMACape Light Compact, Eversource and National Grid customers$275 per kW of average contribution during summer events
SMART 3.0MASolar customers of the investor-owned utilitiesFlat incentive per kWh for systems of 25 kW AC or less

Who receives each incentive depends on who owns the battery or solar system and on each program's rules. With the Prepaid Solar Program or a PPA, SunPol or the PPA provider owns the system, so ask how your agreement handles these incentives before you sign.

  • In ConnectedSolutions, your Mass Save Sponsor sends a signal no more than 60 times per summer, with each event lasting a maximum of three hours.
  • Mass Save accepts batteries installed with new solar, added to existing solar, or installed stand-alone, and Tesla is one of the manufacturers you enroll through.
  • DOER publishes a separate Guideline on Energy Storage for SMART 3.0, so ask your installer whether a battery changes your SMART incentive.
  • The federal Residential Clean Energy Credit (25D), which included battery storage technology, is not available for any property placed in service after December 31, 2025, according to the IRS.

Should you add Powerwall 3 to solar in Connecticut or Massachusetts?

It depends on how often you lose power, what you need to run during an outage, whether you are adding solar, and which payment path fits you. A battery adds backup power and can qualify for state battery programs, but it adds equipment. A local SunPol advisor can review your roof, your electric bill and the programs in your town.

  • Frequent or long outages make backup more valuable.
  • List the circuits you need, such as heat, refrigeration, well pump or medical equipment.
  • Decide whether you want to own the battery or have SunPol or a PPA provider own the system.
  • Compare quotes for the same battery count and backup design.

SunPol also serves Massachusetts homeowners; see the Massachusetts solar company page or the Connecticut solar company page.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Does SunPol Solar install Tesla Powerwall 3 in Massachusetts?

Yes. SunPol Solar installs Powerwall 3 home batteries in Connecticut and Massachusetts, and it is registered in Massachusetts under MA HIC #220128. Which ways to pay are available for a Massachusetts address, and the project details, are confirmed during the solar report and consultation process.

Can I add Powerwall 3 to an existing solar system?

SunPol Solar installs Tesla Powerwall 3, FranklinWH aPower 2 and Enphase home battery systems, pairing with new or existing solar panels to provide backup power during grid outages. Before quoting, the installer assesses your home's electrical system and any electrical upgrades needed, so the design fits your existing equipment.

Where can I find official Powerwall 3 specifications?

Use Tesla's official Powerwall page and owner documents for current specifications and terms. This page does not list Powerwall 3 technical figures, because manufacturer documents are the reliable source. Ask your installer to put the exact battery model and quantity in your proposal and to share the Tesla documents with it.

Do I need solar panels to get a Powerwall 3?

Not always. Tesla says Powerwall stores energy generated by solar or from the grid, and Mass Save ConnectedSolutions accepts stand-alone battery storage systems. SunPol Solar's Powerwall 3 package pairs the battery with Silfab SIL-440 panels, and pairing a battery with solar lets it recharge with the sun's energy.

Does the federal tax credit still cover home batteries?

For homeowners, no. The IRS says the Residential Clean Energy Credit, which included battery storage technology, is not available for any property placed in service after December 31, 2025. This page is general information, not tax advice; talk to a tax professional about your situation.
